Yard Saints
NO BLUE OF THEIR OWN
a night book of the blue jay
William Vincent Carleton
The blue jay leaves the tree the way a swimmer leaves a wall, and he carries no blue paint at all, only light playing a trick. In this Yard Saints night book, Lúmine and Líam learn the woods by his noise: whistles, clicks and other birds' voices. He plays with the squirrel, keeps watch for the forest, and teaches that the blue isn't his, but the watch is.
