Pumpkins, Pies, and the Table

Two pumpkins are carved at the long table while pies cool on the counter: apple, pumpkin, a small pecan and a trembling lemon meringue. No one asks who has done enough. The table is simply full. A warm kitchen book for the first real cold of the year, best shared with something sweet nearby.
